We went to an amazing Goth party last night called “Cabaret Nocturne” at the Tilt club (272 Russell St, Melbourne). The atmosphere was amazing and the people were ubercool. Photos are here. We danced to NIN, Siouxie and the Banshees, Depeche Mode, Placebo, Timo Mass, Rammstein and much more…
You whinged and whinged so we finally decided to put up some more photos of us, and less of the scenery. So here they are, in all their mobile g(l)ory.

Melbourne is a beautiful city, well laid out and relaxed.
To me, Sydney was much like Los Angeles — seedy and unkempt, with some exceptions such as the Circular Quay, The Rocks area, Annandale, Sydney University and King St. in Newtown. One could enjoy touring the urban decay, but I would not like to live in it. Much in the same way as I can enjoy Bangkok as a tourist but would never consider living there.
Melbourne on the other hand reminds me of Chicago in its architecture but San Francisco’s downtown in its feeling. Even the less appealing suburbs such as North Fitzroy are nicer than your average suburb of Sydney. There’s room on the sidewalk to enjoy the city while walking, not just walk from origin to destination as in Sydney. People here are less about ‘getting there’ and more about enjoying the journey. There are trees everywhere and the air is clearer and less polluted. Less cars on the city roads and almost no busses as the trams serve the same function without the noxious exhaust.
My kind of city.
We scored tickets to the 2nd NIN show in Melbourne at the Metro on the 14th of May, 2007. Yes, it is still a long way away!
Consider that the 1st show was sold out in the first five minutes of the sale…
We’ll see Arcturus before, on the 31s of March at The Espy. Never heard about them before Damien recommended them, we’ll have fun for sure though!
I love that Melbourne has so much music going on!
We’ve been in Melbourne for three days now and managed to have both good times and bad in this short period of time. Overall the outlook is very positive and we’re finding that we like Melbourne a lot. George and Bella are very accomodating and we appreciate they hospitality very much.Assorted photo updates for you… The first two are especially for Aya:

We’ve arrived at Melbourne this afternoon and have been very warmly welcomed by George and Bella at their Brighton house.
We didn’t have much of a chance to see the city, except briefly on route, but it already looks much cleaner and relaxed than Sydney.
More to come tomorrow when we’ll go touring around!
Due to my work we have to postpone our Melbourne move by a week. So we’re in Sydney for another week ;-o
Two more nights in Sydney…
